What is NLP?

Let's Get Started....

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a psychological approach that involves analysing and modifying human behaviour., psychology and programming.  It allows a person to be in charge of their own thoughts and feelings and to communicate more effectively and also understand others communication.

It focuses on the relationship between neurological processes (neuro-), language (linguistic), and behavioural patterns learned through our experience (programming).

It is very much about how our neurology connects to our physiology, our internal dialogue in the ways in which we think and speak to ourselves and the programs that we make run that cause our triggers and how we react or do certain things.

Majority of the time we guess wrong about our own thoughts, actions and behaviours.  We generally guess negatively which can be all the ways that degrade us and make us feel bad which increases anxiety and stress.

NLP aims to help individuals understand and change their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to achieve specific goals.  Put quite simply, it is an owner's manual for the brain to help us understand why we do what we do, why we think what we think and how we can change what we do.

It is a way to create repeatable, beneficial patterns and to understand the negative patterns and behaviours and what we are doing to create those.

Key concepts of NLP include:

  1. Modelling: Observing and replicating successful behaviours and strategies from others.

  2. Presuppositions: Fundamental beliefs about human communication and change, such as "The map is not the territory," meaning our perception of reality is not reality itself.

  3. Anchoring: Associating a physical stimulus with a desired emotional state to trigger that state on demand.

  4. Reframing: Changing the way a situation is perceived to alter its meaning and impact.

  5. Rapport: Building a connection and trust with others through mirroring and matching body language, tone of voice, and words.

NLP techniques are used for personal development, therapy, coaching, and improving communication skills. It is widely applied in various fields including business, sports, and education.
